Rusty James: Is a strong 14 year old who smokes, plays pools, drinks, and get into a lot of rumbles. Rusty also has dark red hair. Rusty gets a bad cut on his side.
Ponyboy: Is also a strong 14 year old who smokes. He has only drank alcohol once. Ponyboy does not play pools and he has dark brown hair but at the end has blond hair (because Johnny bleached it to not fit the description). Ponyboy has a good build for his age and only got into one rumble at the end of the book. Pony gets a small cut when he gets jumped by socs.

In the book rumble fish I noticed that one of the main characters in the book, Rusty James reminded me of pony boy from the outsiders, like Pony Boy rusty James is 14 and is pretty well built. Also like Pony Boy Rusty James also has a craving for chocolate. Also like Pony Boy Rusty James smokes. Rusty James has been into many gang fights and Pony Boy has only been to one gang fight.

Rusty James and Ponyboy are very similar. For example, they both are fourteen. They also both smoke. Thirdly, they both don't live with at least one of their parents. Both of Ponyboy's parents died, and Rusty James' Mother abandoned them. Next, they both belong to a gang or did at some point. Ponyboy was part of the Greasers, and Rusty James was in a gang with his brother the Motorcycle Boy, the leader. Finally, They both have participated in a gang fight. Rusty James fought against other gangs during the fighting time, and at the end of "The Outsiders" Ponyboy participated in a gang fight against the Socs. Overall, the characters Rusty James and Ponyboy are very similar.

Even though I have not gotten too far into Rumble Fish by S. E. Hinton, I can already see some similarities between characters from this story and the characters in The Outsiders, by the same author. One character connection that comes to mind is the connection between “The Motorcycle Boy” and Soda Pop. Both of these characters play the role model and older brother of the main character in each story. They are very protective of their younger brothers whether that implies breaking someone’s wrist to assist in a fight or just sticking up for their brother in an argument. Soda and “The Motorcycle Boy” are both very tough looking however; they are also both very attractive to girls, even though they are both in some kind of steady relationship. Both characters are not in school although they are at an age where they should still be in school. Another similarity is that both characters, at one point or another in the book, are said to have similar personalities and physical features as their mothers. For Motorcycle Boy, this is not a good thing since the mother walked out on both him and his brother and also their father. In Soda Pop’s case, the mother is remembered and missed by all since she did not walk out but rather died along with her husband. All in all these two characters have more similarities than differences.

Very well constructed response Demitri! I too see how "The Motorcycle Boy" and Sodapop are similar. Also, I liked how you remembered that Sodapop and his mother shared similar physical features. I would probably not have made that comparison between The Motorcycle Boy and Sodapop. Great response!

The book “Rumble Fish” by S.E Hinton was definitely a captivating book. I was intrigued with every flip of the page and I was able to visualize all the details of the book, from the way the characters talked to the settings of every scene. Nonetheless, I was able easily compare and contrast the main character of the book, Rusty James, to Dally from “the Outsiders”. To begin with, they both get their reputations of being the “toughest cat” and “the real character of the gang” from getting into a lot of fights and rumbles. Not to mention, they are both infamous at their local police stations! In the text, Cop Patterson was out to find an excuse to arrest Rusty. Similarly, the cops are very wary and not as lenient when it comes to encountering Dally because of his bad record. “They have a file on him down at the police station. He had been arrested, he got drunk, he rode in rodeos, lied, cheated, stole, rolled drunks, jumped small kids- he did everything.” Next, they’re both confident when it comes to girls. For instance, in “the Outsiders,” Dally was talking “awful dirty” to Cherry and Marcia at the movies. In my opinion, it takes a great amount of confidence to go up to random strangers and talk rudely to them. Rusty showed confidence as well when he ignored the fact that he and Patty were in the midst of a rocky time in their relationship, and still went over to her house and stated, “She looked at me for a long time, then held the door open. I knew she would. She was crazy about me.” Another example is how they both lack a healthy relationship with their fathers. Rusty James explained that he found it rather unsettling and uncomfortable to talk with his dad. Dally has a similar kind of relationship with his father. He doesn’t care about his father and his father doesn’t care about him. Lastly, Rusty and Dally both have a friend that they go out of their way to protect. Moreover, throughout the book, Rusty protected Steve and kept people from beating him up. Like Rusty protects Steve, Dally protects Johnny. When Johnny needed to run away from the police, Dally risked getting in trouble and gave Johnny some money, a gun, and a place to hide. In addition, Dally is never kind towards anyone but when he was talking to Johnny, he said, “Johnny, I ain’t made at you. I just don’t want you to be hurt” using a “pleading, high voice” using a tone that Ponyboy never heard from him before. Ponyboy and Dally have a lot of similarities but even so, they also share differences as well. Moreover, while Rusty looks up to the Motorcycle Boy, Dally doesn’t look up to anyone. Instead, Johnny looks up to him. Lastly, Rusty James dedicated himself to a relationship with Patty and they were officially dating. On the contrary, Dally didn’t date anyone but instead, flirted with any girl he saw. Ponyboy mentioned in the story that he was used to hearing Dally talk “awful dirty” to girls. In conclusion, Rusty from “Rumble Fish” and Dally from “the Outsiders” shared a lot of similarities, as well as differences, and it was very interesting to read about both of these characters and see them come to life through S.E Hinton’s writing.

In the book "Rumble Fish" I realized that Rusty-James is a bit like Ponyboy.. Rusty-James and Ponyboy are both 14. They smoke, and are greasers. Ponyboys parents died in a car-accident and Rusty-James mother left him when he was a very young boy. Ponyboy has his brothers, Darry and Sodapop, while Rusty-James has his brother "The Motorcycle Boy". Rusty-James and Ponyboy both live in Tulsa. On the other hand, Ponyboy only drinks once in a while, but Rusty-James drinks almost all the time. Ponyboy has brown/blonde hair, while Rusty-James has deep dark red hair. Rusty-James plays pool, and is always up for a gang-fight. Rusty-James is street smart and a bit school smart. Ponyboy doesn't really like fights. Ponyboy is always school smart but not street smart. Basically, the characters Rusty-James and Ponyboy are very similar, but also different.

The books Rumble Fish and The Outsiders by S.E Hilton share many similarities. The biggest similarity is the characters in both stories. The characters I found most alike were Rusty James from Rumble Fish and Ponyboy from The Outsiders. First of all, both Rusty and Ponyboy are influenced by their older siblings. In Rusty’s case; he looks up to his older brother "The Motorcycle Boy" and even claims "I want to be just like him." Considering this, Rusty does many things such as playing pool and getting into fights just like his older brother. He even fantasizes over looking like "The Motorcycle Boy" to Steve in an early chapter. Idolizing "The Motorcycle Boy" allows Rusty to form a tough character. On the other hand, Ponyboy is also influenced by his older brothers but in a different way. Ponyboy's older brother Darry tries to guide him in the right path while still letting him enjoy parts of being a hood. Even though Ponyboy doesn't really like Darry's style of parenting, he seems to go along with it. Pony's other brother Sodapop also contributes to raising Ponyboy. He provides the more understanding and enjoyable attention that Ponyboy needs to get through his childhood and teenage part of life. This allows Ponyboy to become a smart, selfless, and mentally strong person. Another similarity between these two characters is that they both have a friend that seems to understand them better than other people. Rusty's friend is Steve while Ponyboy's friend is Johnny. Steve is the kind of friend who tries to talk Rusty into making safer decisions. When Rusty doesn't listen to him, he goes along with him. Johnny is the only person besides Sodapop that truly understands Ponyboy's thoughts and feelings. Both him and Ponyboy act and think similarly which allows them be such good friends. Lastly, both characters maintain a good personality despite being in gangs and doing wrong things. For example, both characters have drunk alcohol under age and been in fights with weapons. Even though they have done these things, they are still good people. Ponyboy has risked his life trying to save kids in a burning building even though he didn't have to. Rusty has protected his friend Steve from violence and being made fun of all of his life. All in all, both characters are similar in many ways. Both have gone through things many people should never have to experience. Regardless, they have both toughed it out and have managed to still be good people.

I have read both "The Outsiders" and "Rumble Fish" and while reading "Rumble Fish" I found that Rusty James reminded me of Ponyboy who was in “The Outsiders.” They both looked up to their older brother, they both smoked and they both got into gang fights. The both of them also liked to get the attention of girls. Ponyboy wanted Cherry and Rusty wanted Patty. Another thing they both had in common was that they have a best friend who would always be there for them. Ponyboy always had Johnny by his side and Rusty James always had Steve by his side. Although they have a lot of similarities they also have differences. While they both had always older brothers to look up to their brothers taught them different things. Ponyboy’s brothers, Dally and Sodapop taught him to try and be successful in life like their father but to stay true to being a hood. Rusty James’s brother, The Motorcycle Boy” taught him to protect himself and not to worry about school or anything else.

I have been reading "Rumble Fish" by S.E. Hinton. While reading "Rumble Fish", the main character Rusty James reminded me of Ponyboy from a book also by S.E. Hinton called "The Outsiders". They both are 14, they both smoke, and they both got into a gang fight. Also, they both got cut by a knife during a fight. They also have a best friend that always would be there for them. Rusty- James has Steve and Ponyboy has Johnny. Rusty-James and Ponyboy have a lot of similarities however, they also have differences. Ponyboy lost both of his parents in a car crash, but Rusty-James mother abandon him when he was younger. Ponyboy has brown hair but in the end has blonde hair, Rusty-James has dark red hair. The next different thing about Ponyboy and Rusty-James is that Rusty-James gets involved in many fights and Ponyboy doesn't get involved into fights. Another difference between Rusty-James and Ponyboy is Rusty-James has a girlfriend and Ponyboy doesn't have a girlfriend. The last difference about Rusty-James and Ponyboy is Rusty-James is street smart and not school smart. However, Ponyboy is school smart and not really street smart. These two boys have a lot of similar things but they also have some differences.

When I finished the book "Rumble Fish" by S.E Hinton it left me thinking about a book I read during the school year, "The Outsiders" by the same author. It was very easy for me to see that the two books were similar yet different, character wise. The main character in the book "Rumble Fish" is a 14-year-old boy, Rusty-James. He reminded me very much of the character Dallas Winston (Dally) from "The Outsiders." Although they are not the same age they basically have the same character traits. For example, Dallas and Rusty-James both love to fight, and they both have bad reputations. Also they both drink, smoke and go to parties. Though the two have similarities they also have differences. First of all the character Rusty-James wants to be just like his older brother Motorcycle Boy, but Dally doesn't want to be like anybody but himself. Last but not least Dally seems to be a bit more carefree than Rusty-James. Overall it was very fascinating to see how similar yet so different these two characters from "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders" were.

There are multiple similarities and differences in these two books: "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders". The book "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders" is written by S.E. Hinton. S.E. Hinton made the main characters in both books boys. The main character in "Rumble Fish" is named Rusty James. The main character in "The Outsiders" is named Ponyboy. Ponyboy and Rusty James have some similarities. First, one of the similarities that they both have is that they are both 14 and have already started smoking. Today, you have to be at least 18 years old to smoke. Second, they have both been in fights or "Rumbles". They have both been cut and bruised. Lastly, they both have older brothers who love them and takes care of them. Even though they have more similarities, there are also a lot of differences. For example, Rusty James drinks alcohol very frequently while Ponyboy has drank only once. Another difference you can point out about these two main characters is that Rusty James forgets a lot of stuff until someone says something to remind him about it when Ponyboy is very smart and remembers 100% of what he hears and is taught. Finally, there is a difference of how their moms have disappeared. Ponyboy's mother has died in a car accident while Rusty James' mother left him when he young. In conclusion, both Ponyboy and Rusty James have a lot of similarities and differences which makes great main characters

In the book rumble fish and in the outsiders there was a character that acted the same way in each novel. Rusty-James reminded me of Ponyboy in the outsiders. Their similarities are they both are fourteen years old. Also they both smoke and don't follow any rules. Rusty has been in many gang fight and was tough. On the other hand Ponyboy has only been in one gang fight and was not that intimidating to others. Also Ponyboy wasn't as hard core as Rusty- James rusty would rob a store any day but Ponyboy wasn't like that he was more gentle. There is a big difference between the two.

Whilst reading "Rumble Fish" this summer, I noticed that this book and "The Outsiders" were similar. Not just the book itself, but the characters as well. The protagonist in "Rumble Fish" , which is Rusty James, reminded me of Ponyboy from "The Outsiders", who is also the protagonist. First of all, the two young boys both have an older brother who they really look up to as their role model. The older brothers actually care and looks after them like a parent. Speaking of parents, Rusty and Ponyboy have a not-so-sweet family. To clarify, Rusty's mother has disappeared to California and is stuck with his alcoholic father. Furthermore, Ponyboy's parents have died in a tragic car accident. As a result, their sibling(s) look after them, as stated before. In addition to that, they are both 14. Moreover, they drink underage, smokes, and have been in harsh fights with their gangs. Alongside the similarities, there have also been a fair amount of differences between these two books. While in the end of "The Outsiders", the gang fights end, it is the opposite for "Rumble Fish". In Rumble Fish, Motorcycle Boy has led the gang fights to end. As I conclude, let me say, despite the comparisons and contrast between Rusty James and Ponyboy, I very much enjoyed Rumble Fish as much as I enjoyed The Outsiders.

The Outsiders and Rumble Fish are two novels written by S.E. Hinton. The main character in Rumble Fish is a young boy named Rusty-James. Rusty had many similarities and differences with another character in The Outsiders named Johnny . Both of these young men didn't have it easy at home. This included lack of perennial guidance. The boys also had loyalty to their gangs. Throught Rumble Fish Rusty mentioned how he missed being in fights with his "pack". Johnny was a very helpful and loyal friend to Ponyboy, as was Rusty-James to steve.
They also have many differences. Rusty had a brother but Johnny was an only child. Johnny died in the story but Rusty lived on. Rusty-James looked, acted, and was tough but Johnny was always being beaten-up. Johnny had a sad look in his eyes. Johnny spent his life living for peace and Rusty looked for a fight.

Starting off, the book "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders" both written by S.E. Hinton, share many similarities. Especially with the characters, they share many common characteristics. From reading both of the novels, the characters who share the most similar characteristics to Rusty James in my opinion would have be Ponyboy. Rusty James and Ponyboy are both 14 and love to smoke and drink alcohol. However, there not supposed to drink at this age by they still like to do it everyday. Also, Rusty James and Ponyboy lost parents that they needed at their age. So, Rusty James is cared by his alcoholic father, who drinks everyday and comes home drunk and Ponyboy, who's parents died in a car accident and raised by his brothers. This also leads to brothers. Similarly, the both teenagers have older brothers who they look up to. First, Ponyboy looks up to his brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry decided not to go to college because he didn't to leave his brothers and that's what Ponyboy looks up to. On the other hand, Rusty James, looks up to his brother, Motorcycle Boy. Rusty said to Steve that he wanted to be just like him. Another similarity they share is being in a gang. S.E. Hinton made books where she grew up. Where she went to school, she saw gangs and fighting going around. So, she wrote her books off of the past and what she experienced and saw. So, Ponyboy and Rusty James are in gangs and gang fights. From in both books, the characters experience gang fights. Motorcycle was so scared that of that he could end gang fights with some punches. Although, there are many similarities between Rusty and Ponyboy, there also differences too. In the beginning of the book, Rusty goes into his girlfriends house to talk. Ponyboy never had a girlfriend but didn't want one either. He thought greaser girls were nasty. Another difference is that, Rusty James drinks alcohol often and Pony only drank once. Rusty and Ponyboy shared many similarities and differences throughout both books.

After reading the book "Rumble Fish" by S.E. Hinton, I noticed that the main character, Rusty-James had numerous things in common with a character from the book "The Outsiders". I found that Rusty-James (Rumble Fish) and Ponyboy (The Outsiders) had similarities as well as differences. First of all, they both 14 years old and smoke at a very young age. Both characters have lost one or more family members. In the book "Rumble Fish", Rusty's(Rusty-James) mom left the family. In "The Outsiders", Ponyboy lost his parents from a tragic car accident. Another similarity the character share is, they both have an older brother that look out for them. Ponyboy's brothers look out for him as well as "The Motorcycle Boy" caring for Rusty. They both are in gangs that frequently fight other gangs. Ponyboys is in the "Greasers" and Rusty is in a gang as well. The characters are involved in gang activities, such as rumbles. They both have been in at least one rumble. The final thing they have in common is, they have friends that understands them better than anyone else. Rusty has Steve understanding all his problems and Ponyboy has Johnny comforting him all the time. Aside from their similarities they both have some differences. Rusty drinks alcohol oftenly while Ponyboy doesnt drink as often. In the book "The Outsiders" Ponyboy is smart and loves to read, but Rusty isn't talented in acedemics. The last difference the characters share was, Rusty is always active in rumbles and Ponyboy wasn't. In conclusion, the two characters have both similarities and differences. I genuinely enjoyed reading this book.

The main character in Rumble Fish is a fourteen year old boy who's name is Rusty-James and is very similar to the main character in The Outsiders Ponyboy. They both are fourteen year old boy, both smoke, participate in gang fights, nice "body-shape", and both have atleast one brother (Rusty-James one brother while Ponyboy has two). The two main characters have very little differences, Rusty-James' parents are still alive but Ponyboy's parents are dead, they both have different hair color, Rusty-James has some memory issues and sometimes forget important stuff while Ponyboy doesn't, and Rusty-James makes money by playing pool while Ponyboy doesn't. So these were the differences and similarities in the book The Outsiders and Rumble Fish. Over all this was very interesting book.

"Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders," both written by S.E. Hinton, were novels that were very suspenseful and intense with every detail captured in mind. When I was done reading the novel, "Rumble Fish," I could compare and contrast some characters in these books. Two boys that could be easily defined were Rusty-James from "Rumble Fish," and Ponyboy Curtis from "The Outsiders." First of all, they were both narrators and protagonists in their story and they have had experiences with gangs and dangerous gang fights. Secondly, they are both fourteen years old in the story, and they smoke. Additionally, they do not have an "appealing" parent background. Ponyboy's parents died from a tragic car accident, and was raised and protected by his hardworking older brothers: Darry, and Sodapop. Rusty-James's mother abandoned his family, and his father on the other hand drank a lot so he was not there to take care of Rusty and be there when he really needed him, and he also looks up to his older brother known as The Motorcycle Boy. On the other hand, there were some differences, too. Their personalities are total opposites. For instance, Ponyboy's interest in books, and his academic achievements definitely set him apart from the Greasers in "The Outsiders"; however, Rusty-James wants to stay calm and laugh when things get dangerous, to be the toughest street fighter and the most respected guy on their side of the river. Rusty-James isn't book-smart, and he knows it. He relies on his fists instead of his brains. In conclusion, aside from comparing and contrasting characters, I enjoyed reading these two books.

One of the similarities is that both Rusty-James and Ponyboy are narrators and the protagonist in the book. Also they both are fourteen years old and were born as greasers. The two of them have a best friend that always would be there for them. Rusty- James has Steve and Ponyboy has Johnny. In addition, both smoke and got cut by a knife in a fight. Lastly, Ponyboy and Rusty-James live with their brothers and have don’t have any parents to take care of them. However Ponyboy and Rusty-James have many differences too. Their appearance is different from each other because Ponyboy has brown hair but in the end has blonde hair. Rusty-James has dark red hair. The next difference is that Rusty-James is a tuff greaser that gets involved in many fights, but Ponyboy is a different because he doesn’t like to get involved in fights like Rusty-James. Lastly, is that Ponyboy lost his parents in a car accident, but Rusty-James mother abandon him when he was young. These boys have a lot of similarities, but they have completely different personality and appearance.

Previously, I have read a book called "The Outsiders" written by S.E. Hinton. Shortly after, I began reading another book called "Rumble Fish", written by the same author. Both are magnificent books, and they both have their resemblances. Obviously, the first hint that indicates the books have some similarities is the fact that both novels were written by the same author, who has her own and specific method of writing. In my opinion, the main character, Rusty James from Rumble Fish is very similar to the other main character in The Outsiders, Ponyboy. My first reason to believe that these two characters are alike is the fact that both characters hang out with a group of friends, or in other terms, a gang. Secondly comes the fact that both have had a conflict in school at one point or another. For example, at the end of the book "The Outsiders", Ponyboy was not doing so well in his English class, in fact, he was failing. To make up for part of his grade, he had to write a theme or a paper and hand it in to his English teacher. In the novel Rumble Fish, Rusty James is transferred to another school due to his inadequate behavior. Thirdly, they are both at the age of 14. Fourthly, both smoke and deny that cigarettes could really do any potential damage to their health and discard warnings given to them by other people. Finally, they both have been in a "rumble". Ponyboy was in a big "show down" between his side of town, also known as the Greasers, and the other side of town, known as the Socs. Rusty James was in a different fight which was a one on one against Biff Wilcox, but nonetheless, it was a fight. Within this reason, at the beginning of the fights, both characters experienced an altercation. They talked at the beginning, then waited until someone started the rumble. Without a doubt, both of these books were absorbing and captivating. S.E. Hinton has once again, with the book "Rumble Fish" proved and defended her position as one of the best children's book writers of all times. I will certainly continue to read her work and have fun finding similarities in her books, a demonstrated characteristic of her writing.

Anthony I really enjoyed your response. I liked the way you discussed the similarities between Ponyboy and Rusty James. It was nice how you added the similarities in writing from the author. The only thing I believed you missed was the differences between the characters. Other than that, I believe you constructed your response nicely with a lot of detail and a well explanation of the similarities.

In the book Rumble Fish and Outsiders, they basically have the same story or plot in the book. The main character in Outsider was Ponyboy, and in Rumble Fish was Rusty-James. They both have the same age. But in the story while Rusty-James was fighting, he got cut by a knife.

But in the Outsiders, Ponyboy never got cut. In Rumble Fish and Outsiders, Ponboy and Rusty-James were both narrators. Ponyboy's parents got in a car accident and Rusty-James got abandoned by his mother. In the Outsiders Ponyboy had greased hair while Rusty-James did not. In conclusion, the two book have similarities and can be different.

While I was reading "Rumble Fish", I have noticed the similarities it shares with "The Outsiders" which is also written by S.E. Hinton. First of all, Rusty James from "Rumble Fish" and Ponyboy from "The Outsiders" are both protagonists. Secondly, they are both 14 and lives in a similar type of settings. The two teenagers hang out with their gangs or friends. Also, there are harsh fights between the different gangs. Third, Rusty James has an attitude problem in school so he is not doing so well in education and even though Ponyboy was intelligent in the beginning, he started to fall back and fail in education. Fourthly, Ponyboy's parents both died in a car accident and Rusty James' mother has dissappeared so that explains how they are both mainly in care of their older siblings. Both characters has a caring older brother they look up to. Another similarity is that both of them ignores the fact that cigarettes can damage their body and continues to smoke it. Although there is an abounding amount of similarities, there are differences between thetwo protagonists. First of all, Rusty James drinks more often than usual but Ponyboy drank alcohol once and never drank it again. Another difference is that Rusty James has a girlfriend but Ponyboy doesn't even look at a Greaser girl. Also, Rusty James has a blurred memory and has to be reminded to remember something but Ponyboy is smart enough to remember what he has to. Lastly, even though Ponyboy was struggling in school throughout the end, he is still more in the academic zone rather than Rusty James who thinks mostly about his strength. These are the similarities and differences between Rusty James from "Rumble Fish" and Ponyboy from "The Outsiders".

After finishing "Rumble Fish" and reading the question, I recalled all of the different characters from both "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders", and, eventually, I started to think about the similarities and differences between "Rumble Fish"'s Steve and "The Outsiders"'s Ponyboy. The first thing that came to mind was that they were both not very talkative to the others in the gang. Although Steve was not as bashful as Ponyboy, but both didn't talk as much as the other characters. I eventually realized that they also both belong to a gang. Additionally, both of them were 14-years old when the story took place. However, after wondering about other possible similarities, I saw that there were no other resemblances between the two characters (or at least in my eyes). But when I contrasted the two characters Steve and Ponyboy, I found many differences between them. First of all, Ponyboy loved to fight while Steve made it clear he wanted to avoid a gang fight if possible when Rusty-James decided to fight with Biff. Another dissimilarity between them was that Ponyboy smokes and does not drink, while Steve does the opposite and drinks instead of smoking. Next, Ponyboy has two brothers while the book doesn't say anyting about Steve having any siblings. And finally, Steve's parents (or at least his father) is said to be alive, whereas Ponyboy's parents are both deceased.

During my reading of "Rumble Fish", I noticed that Rusty is similar to Johnny because they both have been in the same incident where one got cut up from the antagonist. They both smoke cigarettes, but the age is different. Johnny is 16 and Rusty is 14. In my opinion, Johnny and Rusty are both similar to each other.

I haven't gone far Into Rumble Fish, though i do see the similarities of the characters between The Outsider and Rumble Fish. Ponyboy and Rusty James are very similar between each other. They both smoke, They don't live with their parents, Lastly they are fourteen and both belong in a gang. They participated gang fights, however Rusty James was in a lot of gang fight, for Ponyboy he only participated in one of the gang fight in the book "The Outsider." The difference between Rusty James and Ponyboy is that Rusty James is very well built though Ponyboy isn't very built like Rusty James. Overall Rusty James and Ponyboy are very similar.

While reading Rumble Fish I found many similarities between Rusty James and Dallas Winston of The Outsiders. One similarity between the two is that they are both young adolescents who are or used to be in gangs. Another similarity is that they are both protective of their best friends. In Rumble Fish Rusty James said that he did not let anybody hurt Steve except him Rusty James). In The Outsiders Dallas Winston takes care and defends Johnny because Johnny parents are abusive and do not take care or care for Johnny. Yet another similarity between Rusty James and Dallas Winston is that they both are fearless, reckless, and get into trouble especially when fighting. One more similarity is that they both like to fight and that they are good at it. Plus, they are both very well built and strong. Though everybody is different and that is no exception for Rusty James and Dallas Winston. One difference between the two is that Dallas Winston has been to jail many times throughout his life while Rusty James has never gone to jail or at least we have not heard of it. Another difference between the two characters is that that Dallas Winston is dead and Rusty James is not. One more difference between the two is that Rusty James looks up and tries to imitate the Motorcycle Boy while Dallas
Winston does not look up to anyone. Yet again they are different because Dallas Winston is very carefree and does not have any worries while Rusty James always has something on his mind and is stressing over many things. Plus, Dallas does not have many problems to deal with while Rusty James has many problems going all at once. But when you compare the two being that the books were written by the same author Dallas Winston and Rusty James are very similar.

The Main character in the novel "Rumble Fish" by S.E. Hinton is Rusty James. He is the narrator. In the novel, "The Outsiders" which is also written by S.E. Hinton, the main character Ponyboy Curtis also narrates the story. The novels as well as the main characters share many similarities. Both main characters are 14 years olds, are quite good looking, they both smoke cigarettes and both are from a crummy/poor part of town. Rusty James and Ponyboy have experienced the loss of one parent or both parents. Rusty James’ dad is a drunk and his mother abandoned him when he was just two years old. Ponyboy's parents died in a car accident. Both of the boys are in gangs and have an older brother they look up to. Ponyboy looks up to Darry and Rusty James, looks up to his brother, Motorcycle Boy. These two characters share many similarities but there are some major differences. Ponyboy’s character learns and grows, “he is tired of fighting and the separation of social class.” Also despite the death of his parents he and his brothers emotionally support each other, they are truly a family. Rusty James wants to be like Motorcycle Boy when he grows up. He wants respect, he wants to be the toughest and he wants to be the gang leader, this is how he sees Motorcycle Boy. Motorcycle Boy is really a loner, and Rusty James hates being alone, because when his mom abandoned him at two years old his dad “went on a three day drunk” leaving Rusty James home alone. In the violent end of “Rumble Fish” it’s clear Rusty James got what he wished for. He was alone “in a glass bubble and everyone else was outside and it would be like that for the rest of his life.”

In the book Rumble fish, Rusty James, is very alike to Dallas Winston. They both like fighting, Dallas would always be up for a fight, and Rusty James acts the same way. They both protect their favorite friend, like Dallas protected Johnny, nobody could hurt Johnny except for Dallas himself, the same went for Rusty James and Steve. Rusty James is fearless, "He wants to stay clam and laugh when things get dangerous." Dallas Winston is also fearless, he would kill the reporters if he could for not putting his police record on the newspaper, he takes pride in his record. Dallas and Rusty James are both well known by the police, Rusty James is wanted by one officer, and Dally is known by the police in the town, he would be the first person they go to for a crime I the town. Both their parents are not really there for them, Rusty James has no mother and a drunk father, and Dally's parents wouldn't care if he was found dead. They also have some differences, Dally had gone to jail many times, while Rusty James had never even seen a jail. Dallas looks up to no one, and Rusty James looks up to Motorcycle boy and hopes to be just like him. Rusty James wishes to be in a bubble, I think its to get away from stress, and he gets his wish at the end, but dally didn't want to be in a bubble. This has been my compare and contrast of Dallas Winston and Rusty James.

Recently i have read a book called The Outsiders and now reading a book made by the same author called Rumble Fish. I compared the main character from the outsiders pony boy and from rumble fish Rusty James. In the Outsiders, Ponyboy never got cut. In Rumble Fish and Outsiders, Ponboy and Rusty James were both narrators. Ponyboy's parents got in a car accident and Rusty James got abandoned by his mother. In the Outsiders Ponyboy had greased hair while Rusty James did not. One more similarity between Ponyboy and Rusty James is they both like to smoke. The differences between them are that Ponyboy’s brothers, Dally and Sodapop taught Ponyboy to try and be successful in life like their father but to stay true to being a hood. Rusty James’s brother, The Motorcycle Boy taught Rusty to protect himself and not to worry about school or anything else. So these two characters both have something similar to each other and something different from each other.

In the book Rumble Fish by S.E Hinton, Rusty James is a 14 year old boy who smokes, drinks and fights. He is also the main character of the book. Rusty James reminds me of the character Dallas Winston from another book S.E Hinton wrote. "The Outsiders". Dally smokes, drinks, and fights. These two characters are considered very tough. In both books I noticed that the boys are always with their gangs and always up for a fight. There is also an older brother that everyone looks up to, in "The Outsiders" Darry is the one who takes care of Ponyboy and lets the rest of the gang go to his house whenever they want. In the book, "Rumble Fish" the older brother is "Motorcycle boy" who Rusty James looks up to because he wants to be as tough as him. These are completely different reasons why but they both still look up to their older brother.

I previously read the book "The Outsiders," by S.E. Hinton in class with Mrs. Becker. As I was reading the story "Rumble Fish," also by S.E. Hinton, I noticed many similarities and differences between the books, especially between the characters. Two of the characters that I compared and contrasted were Ponyboy from "The Outsiders" and Rusty-James from "Rumble Fish." To start out, both characters seem to almost be a product of their environment, so to speak. In "Rumble Fish" it seems that Rusty-James lives in a house without rules, discipline, and support, and is always hanging out with hoodlums. This altered him as a person, in the fact that he never thinks about the future or school, how he was always getting in trouble and staying out later than fourteen year olds should. Ponyboy is also affected by his environment. However Ponyboy is affected in an environment opposite of Rusty-James'. His home is caring, has rules and discipline, and is always trying to get him to be better. This led to Ponyboy, although he did "go out with the gang," he still got home at reasonable times, tried in school, looked to the future, and always knew that there was someone who cared about him at home. In addition to this, both characters had best friends, that they were able to relate to better than anyone who wasn't family. Ponyboy had Johnny. They always hung out together, and always had a special bond, that was heightened when they were forced to hide out at the church, and felt that they could talk to each other about whatever they wanted to. Rusty-James had Steve. Even though they were almost exact opposites, they were best friends, and for most of the book, help each other out when they need to. Furthermore, both of live without at least one parent. Nevertheless, there is still a difference between both situations. For Ponyboy, both of his parents were killed, but Rusty-James' mother deserted them, so they still had their father, who drinks so much he might as well not be home. Additionally, both Rusty-James and Ponyboy smoke, and they refuse to believe that it is harmful to them. Finally, one major difference between the two is the fact that though they may have both been in one, Rusty-James genuinely enjoys "rumbles," and Ponyboy does not. Before the Biff Wilcox rumble, Rusty-James talks about how he gets louder and louder, more and more pumped and excited he gets before a rumble. Ponyboy is very different. He does no such thing. In fact, before the rumble between the Greasers and Socs, he actually felt sort of sick, and he never really expresses any real excitement such as how Rusty-James does. In conclusion, they are both very interesting characters to read about, in their own ways. They are both different and the same, and both made their respective book a very fun one to read

Upon reading the story The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton and previously reading Rumble Fish, which was also written by S. E. Hinton I could detect many similarities and differences between the two. I found many similarities and differences mostly between the main characters of The Outsiders, Ponyboy and in Rumble Fish, Rusty-James. They are similar because at one time or another both Ponyboy and Rusty-James had a death wish hanging over them. Rusty-James had said something to a girl and had angered Biff. He is older than and just as tough as Rusty-James. Ponyboy was jumped by a gang called the Socs. Ponyboy was with his best friend, Johnny that had killed one of them out of self defense. Another similarity is their dirty little habits of smoking and drinking underage or having friends that do. Also, they both have at least been in one gang fight. Their family life had been similar too. Rusty-James’s mother had left when he was little. Ponyboy’s parents had died. Lastly they both get all riled up before a fight. One difference about the two boys is that Ponyboy is very bright and gets good grades. On the other hand, Rusty-James does not. He still goes to school when he can or feels like it but the book said that he was always put in the “dumb classes”, as he puts it. Rusty-James has a relationship with a girl named Patty. Ponyboy is not in a relationship. Lastly, Rusty-James has been to jail before, while Ponyboy had not.

If I had to compare and contrast a character from the novel The Outsiders, to the main character in Rumble Fish I would choose Ponyboy Curtis. He reminds me a lot of Rusty-James because they are both fourteen and they both have gotten into fights with weapons. Rusty-James looks up to his older brother Motorcycle Boy a lot in the book and is always saying that he wants “to be just like him.” Similarly, Ponyboy is influenced by his older brothers as well. Darry is always steering him in the right direction, yet he still lets him do all the things the other gang members do. Sodapop is more understanding and caring and really understands Ponyboy’s feelings. This has made Ponyboy a mentally strong and selfless person. Rusty-James has a best friend named Steve and Ponyboy’s best friend is Johnny. Steve is the type of friend that is always trying to talk Rusty out of making a bad choice. When Rusty doesn’t listen to Steve he ends up going along with Rusty anyway. Johnny is the only other person that understands Ponyboy’s feelings besides Sodapop which is why they get along so well. Ponyboy is very smart for being a gang member and he loves to read. On the other hand, Rusty is always skipping class and asking Steve to do his schoolwork. He also ended up getting expelled after countless times of breaking the rules. Ponyboy’s parents died in a car crash and he was raised by his brothers. Rusty’s mom moved away when he was a baby and she now lives in California and his Father is an alcoholic and spends most of his day at the bar but even when he is home he ignores Rusty. Even though, Rusty’s parents are still around they have never really guided him in the right direction. Ponyboy and Rusty have also lost people very dear to them in the novels. Ponyboy lost Johnny his best friend and Rusty lost Motorcycle Boy his brother. All in all, both Rusty-James and Ponyboy have gone through a lot at such a young age, but they still managed to get through it all.

While reading the book Rumble Fish, I have noticed a few connections and differences between the main character Rusty James and Ponyboy Curtis from the Outsiders.First of all, they both have siblings and have strong relationships with them.James and Ponyboy are both the youngest so they admire their older brothers. Although they are both the youngest, James and Ponyboy are both at the age of 14.I also have noticed that the two of them have problems in their lives.Ponyboy's parents have died due to a car crash and James's parents are separated. His mother is planning on to remarry with an artist and his dad is an alcoholic that spends most of his day at the bar drinking and doesn't pay much attention to his son James.Another similarity i have noticed in this book between the main characters was the setting on where they are and how they live. The two books are written by S.E. Hinton so it isn't much of a surprise to find them very similar. The two main characters live in sort of a old style gang.In the book Outsiders, Ponyboy had his group of friends also known as a gang called the Greasers while in the book Rumble Fish, Rusty James had just a small group of friends where he hangs out with most of the time.Rusty James's and Ponyboy's best friends are also very similar.James's best friend Steve, is a very smart kind of kid who is usually calm but gets worried most of the time and likes to stay out of trouble.Ponyboy's best friend Johnny, is almost the same as Steve.Though, Johnny's parents abuse him and he gets scared more than Steve.Lastly, Ponyboy and James both have experienced fighting, violence, and getting in trouble with the police. They both have been into rumbles and have been injured countless amounts of times in the books.Such as the fight between Biff and James in Rumble Fish and the fight between Ponyboy and Bob.They two books have two teams in each of them. One town versus another in the book Rumble Fish and Socs vs Greasers in the Outsiders.Even though they have a lot of similarities, they also have differences.James has only one brother while Ponyboy has 2.Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny have saved many lives of children but James has saved none. Also, James has had been in a relationship with Patty but Ponyboy has not.In the end, both James and Ponyboy are both very interesting characters to read about and I would recommend anyone in the world who enjoys a nice and maybe a relatable story as it was for me.

While reading the book "Rumble Fish", I notice many similarities between the main character Rusty James, and the main character of "The Outsiders", Ponyboy Curtis. Considering that these two characters were thought up by the same author , S.E Hinton, I figured that intentionally she made these characters similar. Both of these male characters are fourteen years old. Their home life is similar as well, though Rusty James has a father, but Darry does act and take role as the father figure in Ponyboy's life. Rusty James's mother abandoned him and his father, Ponyboy's died. Both of these characters have people in their lives who are always looking out for them, giving tough love , and advice. Rusty has The Motorcycle Boy, while Ponyboy has Dallas. They both are apart of gangs, and smoke cigarettes. Overall, these boy share many similarities, and both play a similar role as characters in Rumble Fish, and The Outsiders .

Through reading the book "Rumble Fish" by S.E Hilton, I have seen and realized that it had quite a lot of simularties and differences with the book "The Outsiders". Since both books were written by the same author, the story developement and the characters had a lot in common. Two characters that stood out and felt very simular to me was Ponyboy Curtis and Rusty James. To begin with, Ponyboy and Rusty James were both fourteen years old. Not only that, but both characters were part of a gang. Also, Ponyboy Curtis and Rusty James has a very close relationship with their older siblings because both of these characters have lost their parents. As much as they had similar characteristics, they also had their differences. One difference I would point out would be that Ponyboy had only drank alcohol only once and Rusty James seems like he had drank several times. To continue, according to the book Ponyboy had only been in a fight once while Rusty James had been in several fights throughout the whole book. In summation, Ponyboy Curtis had more similarities with Rusty James then differences.

From the book "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders", I have realized that there were two specific characters that were very similar. It is Ponyboy (Outsiders) and Rusty James (Rumble Fish). They are both very young at a age of 14, yet they act as if they are older. For example, they smoke, get into gang fights, and do bad things once in a while. Both of them also have no family, except their brothers. Getting more into emotional similarities, I noticed that both of the boys are very broken. It may not seem like it because they act tough and smart, but they both end up having a past they wish to forget. At the end of the story, Ponyboy really wants to start over and forget about everything that happened. He never wanted Johny to die. Rusty James also had a very broken life. He watched his own brother die in front of him. He watched someone who he referred to as a role model practically commit suicide. They both want to forget the past and start new. In conclusion, the two boys in the two books are very similar.

After reading both "The Outsiders" and "Rumble Fish", I realized that both the books had some similarities and differences. The characters in the novel were the most noticeable similarities and differences in both books. Rusty James from Rumble Fish and Ponyboy from The Outsiders both looked up and were influenced by their older brother. They also both smoke, drink alcohol and get into gang fights. The biggest similarity between the two characters is that they both got a knife cut. Rusty James got cut by Biff Wilcox and Ponyboy got cut by the Socs. The last similarity that I spotted was that both Rusty James and Ponyboy lost someone very dear to them. Rusty James experienced the "Motorcycle Boys" death right in from of him and Ponyboy lost both Johnny his best friend and Dally his other friend. The characters also had some differences. Ponyboy lost his parents in a car accident so, his older brothers took care of him. On the other hand, Rusty James has parents but his mom left him at a young age and his dad is an alcoholic. Although his dad is an alcoholic, he still lives with Rusty James. Another difference the characters have is that Ponyboy has an interest in books and school. While Rusty James likes get involved into gang fights and fool around with friends. In conclusion, both Rusty James and Ponyboy have many similarities and differences.

I have read both "The Outsiders" and "Rumble Fish" and while reading "Rumble Fish" I found that the main character Rusty James reminded me a lot of Ponyboy. Although they are not completely the same person, they have many things in common. For example they are both 14 and fight in "gangs". They also live in very similar settings. For example Rusty-James lives in an apartment with his father and older brother. His mother is not present in Rusty James' life because she walked out when he was very young. Ponyboy lives in a house with his two older brothers. His parents aren't present because they both died in a car crash a few months back. Considering their family situation, both of their older brothers are very big role models to them. For Rusty-James it is his older brother who is referred to as the motorcycle boy (they call him this because of his obsession with motorcycles), for Ponyboy it is his older brother soda-pop. Although he has two brothers, he feels that Darrel (the oldest) favorites Sodapop so he doesn't like Darrel as much. Both Rusty James and Ponyboy smoke and drink alcohol. Lastly, they both aren’t doing so great in school. Rusty-James just has bad grades in general, but Ponyboy always had good/decent grades until many of his loved ones got hurt and his personal life started to impact his school work and grades. These characters aren’t completely the same person, but they do have many similarities.

The novels "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders", both by S.E Hinton, share many similar characters. The main character of "Rumble Fish", Rusty-James, and the main character of "The Outsiders", Ponyboy, are both tragic heroes. Their names are nicknames given to them by other characters in the story. Also, the twain are of the age of 14, and struggle with violence, family issues, and their identities. Ponyboy's and Russell-James's lives are altered as each story progresses. For example, when the two main characters and a friend get into a dangerous situation in each of the story lines, both boys are saved by a member of their family (Throughout "The Outsiders", the Greasers are often referred to as Ponyboy's family). Ponyboy and Johnny Cade are running away from the law for murdering a rival gang member. However, Dally, a dangerous hoodlum, saves their skins by giving them a place to hide out. In "Rumble Fish" Rusty-James and his best friend, Steve get cornered in an alley by two homeless men. Before the action escalated, Russell's brother, the "Motorcycle Boy" confronted the two men, and rescued Rusty and Steve. Finally, both Ponyboy and Rusty-James suffer the deaths of their loved ones, with Motorcycle Boy's death affecting James, and Dally's death and Johnny's death crippling Pony. Ponyboy and Rusty-James also have numerous differences. Ponyboy is more intellectual at school and does not have "street smarts", while Russell is "street smart", but does not excel in school. Rusty-James is the toughest of the toughest in his town. However, Pony is the youngest, weakest, and most innocent of his gang, and hasn't been in many fights. On the other hand, Russell-James has been in plenty of fights, and has a girlfriend, unlike Ponyboy. Near the beginning of "The Outsiders" we learn that Ponyboy's parents were killed in a car accident, while Rusty's mom had left his family, but his father stayed. Lastly, Pony has a light-brownish hair, and Rusty-James has red hair.

Another difference between the two is that Rusty-James's real name is Russell, while Pony's genuine name is Ponyboy. Both character are also influence by their older brothers. Rusty-James dreams about being exactly like the Motorcycle Boy, and idolizes him to his last moments. On the other hand, Ponboy life is affected by his brothers, Sodapop and Darry. Darry struggles with Pony as he dislikes Darry's method of parenting. However, he and Sodapop get along fine, and Soda will often defend and take up Ponyboy's side during arguments.

Recently I have read both "The Outsiders." And "Rumble Fish" by S.E. Hinton. Rusty-James is the main character in "Rumble Fish" and I found that he reminded me a lot of Ponyboy from "The Outsiders". Both boys get into many gang fights. Soda pop is Ponyboy's older brother and the Motorcycle Boy is Rusty-James's older brother. Both Rusty-James and Ponyboy look up to their brothers as role models. Their older brothers influenced many of their actions because they both wanted to be like their brothers. Rusty-James and Ponyboy live in similar neighborhoods where almost everyone smokes and drinks. Lastly I noticed that they sadly both lost someone close to them. Ponyboy lost his friends Johnny and Dally and Rusty-James lost his brother, the Motorcycle Boy. All though they have all these similarities they also have a few differences. Both of Ponyboy's parents died in an accident so he lives with his older brothers but Rusty-James lives with his brother and father. One more difference is that Ponyboy is a book work, he likes to read a lot and is pretty smart. On the other hand Rusty-James is not book smart. Given these points both Rusty-James and Ponyboy are very similar, however they also have their differences.

Recently I have read the books "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders" by S.E Hinton. Nonetheless, the main character in "Rumble Fish" is Rusty James and I feel that there is a similarity between Rusty James and Ponyboy in "The Outsiders." First and foremost, both oof them are protected by a group of strong and sturdy friends and family. Ponyboy can always count on his brothers, Sodapop and Darry when he is in trouble since he is the youngest in the family. Not to mention, Rusty James is famous for being known as the tough and rough teen but is also popular for being brothers with the Motorcycle Boy. In other words, the Motorcycle Boy is the strongest streetfighter and is respected by all ages. For instance, on page 28, of Rumble Fish it mentions,"The Motorcycle Boy stepped out , grabbed Biff's wrist and snapped it backwards." Furthermore, Rusty and Ponyboy both have a best friend that is quiet and peaceful and helps them in many ways. In comparison, there are many differences among these protagonists. Although Ponyboy is sensitive and is kindhearted, Rusty James is known for being tough and his attitude for being careless. All in all, Ponyboy and Rusty are different and alike in many ways,

In the books, Rumble Fish and The Outsiders, both written by S. E. Hinton, I have noticed two characters fairly similar to one another. Those two characters are Darrel Curtis and the motorcycle boy. First of all they are both older brothers and they look after their little brothers. For example, in the book Rumble Fish, the little brother to the motorcycle boy, Rusty-James is always saved by his older brother whenever he gets in trouble. Like the time when Rusty was stabbed by Buff, or when Rusty was beaten up by the two guys in the alley. The motorcycle boy was always there, too bad he couldn't save himself in the end. Darrel was a good brother too. In the book, The Outsiders, Darrel would always look after his little brother, Ponyboy. Ponyboy always thought it the other way around, how Darry is mean and makes him do his homework and yells at him. But Darry is actually doing that to let Ponyboy have a better life. Ponyboy doesn't have parents. They died in a car accident few years before. It's only Darry taking care of his little brothers, Ponyboy and Soda. Another way that Darrel and the motorcycle boy are similar is that they are both in a gang. They both have brawls and gang fights and a lot of things they have to worry about. They also both live in poverty and have to scavenge for things. In conclusion Darrel and the motorcycle are actually very alike.

In the two books, Rumble Fish and The Outsiders the main characters are similar in many ways but are also very different. Both Ponyboy and Rusty James look up to their older sibling. When Ponyboy wants to go to the rumble he just wants to fight like his older brothers cause he wants to be just like them, tough. As for the the Motorcycle boy, he teaches Russell things like how to fight and Rusty always says how much they look alike.Even if they really don't he just wants to be with his brother and is worried that he may never come back from California. These two characters are often with another group such as Pony being with his brothers and the gang. As for Rusty, he has his own group which is not really a gang but just people that look up to him.The two also face family problems.Ponyboy's parents died in a horrific car accident. While Russell's mom left him and his dad is somewhat an alcoholic. They both don't exactly have the nicest neighborhood. In Pony's case he is in the poor gang living across the rich kids. While Rusty lives in an apartment and Steve refers it as crummy.Between all these similarities comes lots of differences.First of all, Pony is an innocent 14 year old who has seen too much for his teen eyes. While Russell is the scary mean 14 year old who everyone is afraid of.They are really different in academic ways.Ponyboy loves to read and go to school.Meanwhile, Rusty-james got suspended and even expelled from his school. All in all these two are different but are connected with many more similarities.

The character Rusty James from S.E Hinton's "Rumble Fish" and Ponyboy from "The Outsiders" are very similar. They are both fourteen year old boys who are part of a gang. Both boys smoke cigarettes and neither think anything is wrong about it, due to the influence in their lives. They also have to deal with rival gangs and alcoholism. Rusty James's father is an alcoholic and most of Ponyboy's friends drink. They both get attached to people and are devastated when they are gone. By the end of the book, both watch people that they care about die. Rusty James and Ponyboy both have a lack of parental influence. Ponyboy's parents both died and Rusty James's mother left the family while the father would constantly go out drinking and come back late at night or early in the morning. Lastly, both rely on their older brother (brothers for Ponyboy) for help getting through their lives because of this lack of parental guidance.
Though the two characters are similar, they are also very different. Unlike in "The Outsiders," where the gang is very close, the gang in "Rumble Fish" isn't close at all. One of the boys in Rusty James's gang betrayed him by telling his girlfriend that he was with another girl at a party (while he was drunk, which he didn't mention) so that she would date him. Meanwhile in "The Outsiders" Ponyboy says "When you're a gang, you have to stick up for each other." While in "The Outsiders," Ponyboy's best friend, Johnny started the problems in the novel, it was Rusty James who started the problems in "Rumble Fish" while his best friend, Steve just went along with it. Steve was the school smart character in "Rumble Fish" but it was Ponyboy in "The Outsiders." Lastly, Ponyboy avoids drinking at all costs but Rusty James gets drunk al lthe time.

In the book "Rumble Fish" the character Rusty James reminded me of PonyBoy from the book "Outsiders." They were similar because of the fact that they both respected their older brother immensely. They also had a best friend always by their side for the most of the book. But they are not entirely the same. PonyBoy excelled at school work while Rusty James would just not care. Rusty James also gets into a lot of trouble while PonyBoy tries his best to stay out of trouble because that would mean separation from his brothers.

The book “The Outsiders” and “Rumble Fish” were written by the same author, S.E. Hinton. When I started getting into the “Rumble Fish”, I constantly realized the specific style that S.E. Hinton has which is a similarity between two books and difference. Rusty-James from the “Rumble Fish” and Ponyboy from “The Outsiders” both had a crucial conflict with the gang fight. According to the books, they were considered as tough people. For example, they did drugs, smoke, drink and other mature things that they really shouldn’t do. I personally think their brothers were the greatest influence to them. Ponyboy and Rusty-James seemed like they both looked up to their brothers a lot with showing respects and sharing their thoughts about them throughout the book. On the other hand, I noticed a difference between two books. In the book “The Outsiders,” Ponyboy’s gang members are well explained and had enough details about other people, but the “Rumble Fish” seemed like it was focused more to the main character, Rusty-James. It had more explanation about the plot rather than small details about other characters. Also, Rusty-James was in a relationship with Patty, but Ponyboy did not have any girlfriend. By adding a relationship in “Rumble Fish.,” it sounded like Rusty-James was so much mature than Ponyboy and that led to making a difference.

The books The Outsiders and Rumble Fish are both written by the same author S.E. Hinton. While reading these books I noticed similarities in multiple characters. For example two of the characters that are similar are Rusty James and Ponyboy Curtis. Fist of all, they are both the same age, 14. They both have dark brown hair, although Johnny did dye Pony's hair so it wouldn't match his description during the time they ran away. Ponyboy's parent past away because of a car crash, therefore his brothers had to look after him. Rusty James's mom left them, concluding to the same situation as the Curtis boys. They both are or have been a part of a gang. Also, they have participated in rumbles. They both smoke, and unfortunately towards the end of the book lost people they cared for. Finally they are both greasers.

The towns where they lived were also similar. They also have a similar past. Ponyboy's parents passed away in a car crash. Rusty's mother left him when he was very young and his father is an alcoholic. They both also experienced tragic deaths of loved ones and friends. In the end they both lived the life of a hood.

In the book, "Rumble Fish", the main character, Rusty-James can be compared to, Ponyboy Curtis, the main character of the "Outsiders". Ponyboy and Rusty-James are fourteen year old boys involved in some sort of gang activity that has effected their lives. They both smoke and let their lives be carried away by the carelessness of being fourteen. At one point in both books, Ponyboy and Rusty-James get "jumped" by people; Ponyboy gets jumped by the Socs, and Rusty-James gets jumped by strangers in the alleyway. Also, Rusty-James and Ponyboy both envy their older siblings. Ponyboy envies Sodapop because of the way he looks and how cool he is; Rusty-James envies everything about the Motorcycle Boy, and wants to grow up to be just like him. At the beginning of both books, both main characters start reflecting on what happened before all the drama, and at the end of both books, both characters re-reflect on what happened. To the most part, both characters were made by the same author, S. E. Hinton, which immediately binds them together.

Unlike The Outsiders, Rumble Fish stunk. Rumble Fish was so boring I almost fell asleep reading it. Rumble Fish had absolutely no plot what so ever. At least The Outsiders had some good characters. In Rumble Fish, the only memorable person was probably Steve. Rusty James was a static character and so was The Motorcycle Boy. Basically The Motorcycle Boy looks after Rusty James like Darry does for Ponyboy. Steve is sort of comparable to Johnny. They are both timid and pretty smart. Except Steve was a zero and Johnny was a hero.

S.E. Hinton wrote two compelling novels, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish. After reading them both, I've come to the conclusion that Steve Hayes and Johnny Cade are similar. Firstly, they're both considered as to what you would call, "side kicks." Ponyboy Curtis is considered the alpha of the book, while Johnny is his beta. The same goes for Rusty-James and Steve. Secondly, they both possess the same characteristics. For example, they are both fourteen years old, yet they look twelve (as stated by the narrator in both books). They are also both timid and do not really involve themselves with rumbles or anything harmful. Eventually, Steve picks up small habits from Rusty-James (like drinking) which makes him even more similar to Johnny. They have both gotten abuse home, even though Johnny's case is worse than Steve's. In Rumble Fish, Steve gets beat up for coming home late by his father, and Rusty-James says it's worse than anything he's ever gotten yet Steve acts like it's nothing. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy says Johnny doesn't cry about the abuse from his parents, and it's clear he still cares for them. Lastly, they're both good characters. Steve was a smart boy who became successful in life later on, by doing his best at what he wanted to do. And Johnny had proven himself to be bright by the way Ponyboy spoke about him, like the time he said Johnny was the only person from the gang that would understand his feelings on poetry and sunsets. In conclusion, I believe Johnny and Steve are both similar characters by their lifestyles, appearances, and personalities.

Rusty-James from the book "Rumble Fish" is very similar to Ponyboy from the book "The Outsiders. They're both 14, they both smoke , and they're tough. Also, both of them are in gang, Ponyboy was in the Greasers and Rusty-James is in a with his brother, the Motorcycle boy. The Motorcycle boy is the leader of the group. Both group got in to a lot of trouble, fights, and rumbles. However, what I realized was that Ponyboy and Rusty-James both had someone to look up to and someone to help them in there troubles. Rusty-James had the Motorcycle boy and Ponyboy had dally. In conclusion, Ponyboy and Rusty-James both resemble each other in different book because they're very similar.

The two characters I decided to compare are Johnny Cade and Rusty-James. There are a few differences between these two but there is also one major thing in common. Despite being different ages and Rusty-James not being afraid to fight against people the one thing they have in common is they're bad relationship with they're families. For example Johnny's dad always abused him when he arrived home and most of the time it was for no reason at all. His mother also wouldn't say anything and or care about his well being. Rusty-James doesn't exactly care about his father, in the novel the only reason Rusty-James would actually talk to his father was to ask him for money before he would spend it all at the bar. His mother is another story, he never knew her and almost actually forgot the way she looked. So the fact that he never knew her didn't bother him for most of the story until he talked to his brother Motorcycle Boy about her. Motorcycle Boy had told him that when he went to California he saw his mother and had a conversation with her. Even when meeting her son she never had asked for Rusty-James and so some odd reason that bothered Rusty-James, even though he never exactly knew his mother.

Motorcycle Boy and Dally have much in common. Well for starters they both have that look for bad and just are tough and are fearless. When people hear that they back in town or there is gonna be a rumble, everyone know to keep their distance. They both have a record for violence and fighting and for saying every name in the book, but when it comes to family its a whole different story. When they heard Johnny got jumped Dally went nuts and when the Motorcycle boy saw rusty James and Steve get jumped he hurt the other gut even worse. So by summing it up they both have a fatal end from robbery, but you'd think its the worst way to die, well not for these two.

The reason i think this is because is sounds like there the same character but their not.The same similarity's they have are,Drinking,Fighting,Smoking,Gangs,And mostly party's and getting caught by the cops. The difference that i saw was the main character in Rumble Fish Rusty James is one of those kids he only cares about his family and his brothers/gang.But Ponyboy like the one part i the outsiders when the church was burring he risked his life to go and save the kids that were all trapped inside of it.This what i think about the two similarity's of the win characters that i choose.

While reading the novel Rumble Fish, I found a similarity between the main character and a character from the novel The Outsiders. The main character in Rumble Fish is Rusty-James. I compared him to the character Dallas from the Outsiders. They are similar because they both care for their friends. Rusty-James cares a lot for his friend Steve. All throughout the book, they have been by each others side. Dallas cared a lot for his friend Johnny. When Johnny killed a Soc, Dallas helped Johnny hide so no one would find him. Rusty-James and Dallas also have a group of friends that would always help them. When Rusty-James had to go and fight Bill Wilcox, his friends came along with him. When Dallas got in trouble with the cops in the end of the book, his friends ran to try to find and save him. Another way that they are similar, is that they both fight in rumbles. Although they share a lot of similarities, they have differences too. Rusty-James is fourteen years old and Dallas is sixteen years old. Another difference is that Dallas doesn't have a brother like Rusty-James does. Those are the similarities and differences between the two characters Rusty-James and Dallas.

In the two novels I read in the past year Rumble Fish, and The Outsiders, they're were strikingly similar and different sequences in the two novels. To start off, both main characters (Rusty James-Rumble Fish, and Ponyboy-Outsiders) enjoy the same hobbies, which include smoking, drinking, and gang fighting. Another similarity between the two is that they are both in the 1950-60's gang wars. Yet another similarity is that they both get saved in by older brothers when in a tight situation. For example, when Ponyboy was getting chased by the Soc's, Darry (Pony's brother) saves him by calling out the gang and helping Pony with his wounds. In Rumble Fish, Rusty James and Steve (Rusty's best friend) get confronted by by two homeless men. After getting beaten Motorcycle boy, Rusty's brother, saves then by beating the homeless men off and saving the two boys life. While the two novels have strikingly similarities, they also however, have their differences. For example, Ponyboy is only 14 while Rusty is 16. Also, Ponyboy likes to focus on school while Rusty gets expelled. Yet another difference would be that as the story progressed, not much gang war-action went on in Rumble Fish, while in Outsiders, there is constant battles through the story's progression. Although similar and different, both novels have an outstanding plot and I would love to hear more from S.E Hinton.

From both novels by S.E Hinton I can tell that two characters that are similar are Rusty-James and Dally. They are both similar because they are young trouble makers who like to fight, drink, and smoke. They both are chased by the police at some point and are badly hurt in the book. However there are some differences between them like they aren't both the same age, and Dally dies unlike James, and James has an older brother unlike Dally. That is how Dally and James are similar and different

Also the generation are the same because there were a lot of gang fights back then. Also Ponyboy and Rusty are alike because they have someone to look up to like Darry and Sodapop for Ponyboy and Motorcycle boy for Rustfinally they are both alike because both of them like to get in gang fights also known as rumbles. But they do have differences like Ponyboy sounds weaker then Rusty since Rusty beat up a kid bigger then him. They both are 14 year old teenagers, slightly built and they both smoke at a young age. Recently, I have read two novels written by S. E. Hinton. The titles of these books were "The Outsiders" and "Rumble fish". While I was reading these novels, I realized that there were two similar characters from each novel; Sodapop from "The Outsiders" and The Motorcycle Boy from "Rumble Fish". I compared these two characters and found similarities. However, I found differences as well. The similarities were that both characters were very attractive, involved in gangs, stopped attending to schools, and they were the main characters' brothers. On the other hand, the differences were that Sodapop cared about his brother, Ponyboy, greatly while The Motorcycle Boy hardly ever paid attention to his brother, Rusty-James. When Sodapop dropped off from school because of poor performance, The Motorcycle Boy handed in the perfect test grades. In addition, The Motorcycle Boy lapsed a few physical faculties, such as being able to see colors or to hear sounds, while Sodapop did not have such defects. Because of these reasons, I compared and contrasted Sodapop and The Motorcycle Boy.

In the book "Rumble Fish" and '' Outsiders" both Rusty James and Ponyboy have more similarities than differences. For example they are both 14 years old, and also are involved in gang fights. But Rusty has been in more fights than Ponyboy and he is also tougher him. In my opinion they are very alike but they have their differences

A character in the outsiders that reminds me of Rusty James would be Ponyboy. Both of them are fourteen and they are both stocky. They have been in gangs and have been in fights where they were both injured. They also both smoke at a young age. Both boys come from broken homes. Ponyboy lives with his brother Darry and Soda Pop and Rusty James lives with his father and brother. These are a few of the things I think these two characters have in common.

In the book "Rumble Fish" written by S.E Hinton, and "The Outsiders", written also by S.E Hinton, the similarities between the main characters, Rusty James and Ponyboy, are very similar. The similarities between Rusty James, and Ponyboy, is that they both belong in gangs, are somewhat handsome/attractive, both left school for different reasons, lost a good friend in almost the same type of situation, and both had brother(s). But they also are different in many different ways. Ponyboy is very smart while on the other hand, Rusty is a delinquent, and is not that intelligent. Also the differences between the other characters are that one, Rusty still has his parents, two Rusty's brother Motorcycle Boy does not pay alot of attention on Rusty, while Ponyboy's brothers pay a lot of attention, and try to get him on the road to success,

Rusty James and Ponyboy are from the same author's book and their in similar situation. They both have problem with their parents and their in poverty. Even though they are street fighters, and always drunken, they have lots of differences too. Rusty James was really bad student. He didn't do so well in the class and he also got expelled from the school. Ponyboy is like opposite of him. He did well in the class and he got good grades in English. Ponyboy wanted to be an successful person, but James isn't

There are two characters from The Outsiders and Rumble Fish that are very similar and I would like to compare them. These two characters are Ponyboy Curtis and Rusty James. To start off with the two books are very similar because they talk about gangs, fighting and drinking. In both of the books the main characters have struggles. First of all the two characters are 14 years old and are in a gang. Second they both have older brothers and have good best friends that they care about. They both also smoke a lot and have enemies like Biff and the Socs. Towards the end of both books the main characters also stop being hoodlums and continue their lives properly. Believe it or not these two characters also have some differences. Their differences are that Ponyboy actually gets good grades and Rusty James doesn't, that Ponyboy doesn't like drinking that much and Rusty James does, Rusty James also has a much worst temper than Ponyboy because if you say anything about him he just wants to punch you and hurt you. As you can see these two books have similar characters and you can definitely tell that the two books were written by the same author.

In the book Rumble Fish by S. E. Hinton and in the book outsider by S. E. Hinton they both are very much alike like James and jonnie they both have parents that aren’t really there for them and both have bark brown hair and it also seems that someone is always watching over them and tries to get them out of trouble like how in the begin of the story they both get beat up and for James his brother comes and saves him and for jonnie some of his friends comes and saves him. The only difference between jonnie and James is that jonnie never wanted to get in to fights but James always seem to be steering up something. I feel like when jonnie dies it opens a hole other door and allows people to see the truth and I fee; like James dies a little when he loses his sight and even know that he is colored bind he can now see the world for what it really is.

After reading the two novels, Rumble Fish and The Outsiders, I came to realize that Rusty James and Pony Boy have similarities and differences. They are both fourteen and are involved in gangs, rumbles, and are always in any kind of trouble. Rusty and Pony both have brothers that care about them and protects them. Although they have many similarities, they both have a lot of differences too. Rusty James is does not go to school and he gets terrible grade, while Pony Boy gets decent grades and is a decent student. They are also different because Pony Boy does not like to drink, but Rusty James enjoys drinking.

Rusty James and Pony Boy are very similar but also very different. One way that they are similar is smoking. They both smoke a dangerously large amount of cigarettes at the same age of 14. Pony Boy and Rusty James also love to fight. They both get into "rumbles" and fights often. Rusty James and Pony Boy have both either have lost one or more parents. They both like chocolate. The last way is they both have siblings that look after them and protect them. Now moving on to their differences. To begin with, in the book, "Rumble Fish," there were many scenes in which Rusty James was drinking. However, in "The Outsiders," it was said that Ponyboy drank once in his life. Another difference is their attitude towards school and learning. Ponyboy enjoys education and learning while Rusty James despises it and doesn't care about his education. Also, Rusty James is tough and short tempered but, Ponyboy is kind sensitive. Although Rusty James and Ponyboy have several similarities, they also have a few differences.
